Ensuring Excellence Campaign
Partnering for Progress
The future of the Chapel Hill Public Library will be realized through a dynamic public/private alliance. The public part of the alliance is moving forward, with the passage of bond referenda. Public dollars will build the addition to the Library building, and help purchase furnishings and some materials for the collections. Although bond and tax-based dollars are vital, they do not provide the level of funding required to achieve the standard of excellence the Chapel Hill Public Library users deserve.
The Library receives most of its funding from the Town of Chapel Hill. Other limited funds come from the State and Orange County. Out of the 75 public library systems in North Carolina, the Chapel Hill Public Library ranks fourth for municipal support. However, the Chapel Hill Public Library ranks 63rd for local funds from the County, and 68th for money from the State.
