How to Make a Gift
There are several options for giving to the Foundation, including:
If you would like to speak with someone from the Foundation concerning the options listed below, please contact us.
Cash
We welcome cash gifts, which are the simplest, most direct means of support for the Foundation. You will be entitled to an income tax deduction for the entire amount of the gift, providing the deductions are itemized and do not exceed certain limits.
Checks should be made payable to the Chapel Hill Public Library Foundation and mailed to:

Chapel Hill, NC 27514
For your convenience, you may print the Donor Form to include with your donation.
Securities
Appreciated securities continue to be an excellent and popular method of making gifts. Depending on the particular situation, gifts of securities that qualify for long-term capital gains treatment may be deductible at full fair market value on the date of the gift, and there may be no capital gains taxes on the appreciation.
Real Estate
Gifts of debt-free real estate, depending on the situation, may be deductible at the full fair market value on the date of the gift, and there may be no capital gains tax on the appreciation. Although an appraisal is needed to support the income tax deduction, it is possible to avoid the typical costs and delays associated with selling real estate.
Life insurance
Over time, a person's life insurance coverage needs may change, as assets increase and the needs of dependents become less pressing. Life insurance policies, which have a cash value, may be donated to the Foundation. The owner receives an income tax deduction for the value of the policy on the date of the gift.
Bequests
The Foundation encourages you to include a bequest to the Foundation in your will. If you would like, we would be happy to provide you with a sample statement to guide you in writing that portion of your will. If your will already has been signed, a simple codicil can be added to the will that makes a bequest to the Chapel Hill Public Library Foundation.
Gifts with a Retained Income
You may want to make a meaningful gift to the Foundation but not wish to relinquish your current income from the gift property. If this is the case, several types of gifts in trust can be considered. These are methods of making a current gift to the Foundation while retaining the income for your life, and, if desired, for additional life of a spouse or other beneficiary. An attorney can help you design an estate plan that provides income and also benefits the Chapel Hill Public Library Foundation.
