Your Donations at Work

Since 2000, the Library Foundation has donated over $400,000 to the Library. The Library has used these funds to:

  1. Add 500+ general audience DVDs to the Library's collection! For your viewing pleasure, our donated list of wide-ranging selections includes classic and contemporary award winning feature films, titles on health, diet, sports training and exercise, do-it-yourself construction projects, crafts, travel, history and much more. Read more about it on the Library website.
  2. Purchase books for the Library’s collections. We have a town of readers. Keeping up with the pace of reading in this community requires constant refreshment, and expansion, of the Library’s collection.
  3. Dramatically increase public access to Internet stations. In 1999, the Library did not even meet North Carolina state guidelines for access to Internet stations. At that time, the Library had only nine public computer terminals. Now, in 2005, the Library has 24 terminals, updated software, modern wiring, and a dedicated section of the Library for computer use.
  4. Overhaul the Library’s outdated automation system, including replacement of the automation server and upgrading to a “point and click” environment. As a result, the card catalogue (which can be found on-line as well as in the Library) is now a breeze to navigate.
  5. Expand the children’s Spanish language collection. The Library serves all residents of Orange County, including our growing population of Hispanic residents. The Foundation was pleased to receive a special $5,000 gift from a donor who requested that the money be spent to purchase Spanish language materials for children.
